Even though the small type is difficult to read, the message of the poster is not lost due to the large images and the color and size of the single word. (The small text reads "Sleep deprivation hinders your driving ability").

By desaturating the outside of the picture, more emphasis is brought to the couple and they are not lost in the background.

SPATIAL EFFECTS- Balance & Proportion
Perceptions – Balance & Proportion

Unity- To unify a composition, using a limited color palette can be very effective. If you are working with a larger palette one way to unify the palette is to mix a little bit of one color into all of the hues giving that color a subtle prominence. This could be especially effective if you are working in a large space, like a classroom.

Emphasis- Emphasis can be added to a composition by using an unproportionately large image or block of text and then using neutral tones for everything else– the text, background etc. Emphasis can also be added by using a stand-alone bold color.

Weightiness- Highly saturated or busily detailed areas will draw attention and seem to carry more weight than less saturated and simpler areas.

Complimentary Colors- Balance can also be brought to a composition or area by using complimentary colors.
