PHYCHOLOGICAL EFFECTS- Personal Preference Human Response– Personal Preference
Even with the cultural associations for colors, people respond to colors in individual ways. Our own color preference is important. In a study of six- to eleven-year-olds doing a pegboard test wearing colored goggles, results showed that they completed the test faster and more accurately when wearing goggles of their favorite color.
Children-Are most responsive to the pleasures of color
Adolescents-Sensation-seeking adolescents prefer red while the more reserved ones favor blue
Elderly- Have a significant preference of light colors over dark colors, however, yellow is the color they like least.
Mentally Ill-People with certain mental illnesses, schizophrenia in particular, prefer neutral colors (brown, black, white, gray), while "normal people" and manic-depressives generally prefer chromatic hues.
Extroverts/Introverts- Extroverts prefer warm colors while introverts prefer cool colors. However, some people may be drawn towards colors that represent qualities they lack, for balance.
Environments-People from strongly lit countries tend to prefer warm, bright colors, while people from countries with less sunlight tend to prefer cool, less saturated colors. In a study, Scandinavians showed a preference for blue and green, while Mediterranean's preferred red.
